Overview

The purpose of this apprenticeship is to train accountants who work for accountancy firms or in finance divisions within other organisations.

There is a need for apprenticeships in the accounting profession for both large and small organisations.

This framework will help employers meet the current skills shortages in the sector, including a lack of industry and technical knowledge, as highlighted in the Skills Assessment (2012).

This apprenticeship also meet the Government’s skills strategy by:

  1. Increasing the level of skills in the accountancy and finance sector to help achieve a world class skills base
  2. Providing access to Higher Level Apprenticeships that are required by learners and employers
  3. Ensuring vocational qualifications reflect the changing needs of employers

Apprentices have one day release to attend college to study AAT level 4 course.

  • Financial statements and budgeting
  • Financial performance
  • Internal controls and accounting systems
  • Business and personal tax
  • Planning and developing own performance in a business environment
  • Planning and delivery of business communication
  • Organise and facilitate meetings and workshops
  • Working in teams
  • Developing commercial awareness
  • Managing project finances
  • Presentation /spreadsheet software
  • Deliver a presentation

Entry requirements

  • English Grade A*-C/9-4 (or equivalent)
  • Maths Grade A*-C/9-4 (or equivalent)
  • College interview

Applicants who do not meet the exact entry requirements may also be considered.

Applicants who have not achieved at least a grade C/4 in English and maths will continue to study these subjects alongside their chosen college course.

Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)

Not required for this framework.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed through onsite visits and reviews.
