Overview

Around 3.2 million people help to keep businesses running in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors. This includes registered directors, company and chartered secretaries, general administrators and specialist administrators who, in addition to general administration skills, also need sector-specific knowledge to fulfil job roles such as legal or medical secretaries.

The purpose of this particular apprenticeship framework is to train high level professional administrators to work effectively, with autonomy within a business environment enabling the candidates to grow in confidence whilst gaining general and specific management skills appropriate to their field or aspirations.

This apprenticeship is designed for candidates that are developing, implementing, and monitoring administrative services within their organisation giving the opportunity for research, analysis and original thought which are skills valued by Higher Education Institutions.

In additional to the units above, there are optional units that are appropriate to the individuals work role that will be chosen.

Entry requirements

  • English Grade A* – C (or equivalent)
  • Maths Grade A*-C (or equivalent)
  • College Interview
  • Substantial Work Experience

Applicants who do not meet the exact entry requirements may also be considered.

Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)

The nine national outcomes for the employee rights and responsibilities (ERR) will be covered by using one of the following methods:

  • A recorded professional discussion
  • A presentation or project
  • ERR workbook

Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)

Not required for this framework.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed via written reports following class taught sessions. In addition you will undertake presentations, controlled assessments and multiple choice assessments. You will also be assessed in the workplace and on an individual basis inclusive of product evidence, reflective accounts, observations, professional discussions, written and verbal Q&A.

  • Business & Professional Administration NVQ Level 4
  • Maths Functional Skills Level 2 (where necessary)
  • English Functional Skills Level 2 (where necessary)
  • ERR
  • ICT Functional Skills Level 2 (where necessary)

Progression and employment

Higher level apprentices could progress onto management qualifications such as those offered by the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM), Foundation Degrees in areas such as Business, Business Management and Management undergraduate programmes. In addition, a range of Business and Management Professional Qualifications at Level 5 and above re available.

Possible membership of professional bodies such as the Institute of Administration Management is available.
