You will learn skills that are essential for a successful career as a make-up artist. You will develop an understanding of health and safety and client care in the industry. You will gain knowledge in applying different false lashes, photographic make-up, make-up for characters and performers. You will gain knowledge in styling and fitting postiche, airbrush make-up techniques and an understanding of cosmetic camouflage make-up for different case studies.

An integral part of this course is learning and development sessions and functional skills in English and maths.

Theory will be assessed on two dates through the year there will be one opportunity only to re-sit these exams. Practical assessments will take the form of a synoptic test which will take place at the end of the course, you will be given the practical brief two – three weeks before the exam date. You will be required to bring a model to perform the end practical test.

Entry requirements

Completion of the Level 2 Hair and Media Make-up course.

Applicants who have not achieved at least a grade C/4 in English and maths will continue to study these subjects alongside their chosen college course.

How will I be assessed?

Synoptic practical assessment and externally marked exam.

Progression and employment

Successful completion of this course can lead on to a career in the make-up industry and further study at university.

How much will the course cost me?

This course is free of charge for 16 – 18 year olds. There may be an additional cost for trips and equipment but this will be disclosed prior to starting your course.

For health and safety reasons and in order to comply with the code of ethics in assessment, you must comply with the following:

  • You will require a kit and uniform; this should be purchased through the College.
  • A uniform must be worn at all times.
  • You are required to bring into college your kit and any stationary needed to complete your college work for every session on your timetable.

You will be required to undertake work experience on additional days, evenings and weekends to enhance your portfolio of skills.

This course will provide opportunities to carryout make-up for Theatre performances. You will take part in photo shoots.

We will be looking at a weekend trip to IMATS in London.
