This is a one year course and you will be studying for around 18 hours per week at college. The course is divided into practical and theory modules. During this course you will build up a portfolio of evidence to support your study. You will be assessed through observations, assignments and online tests. Work experience is an integral part of this course.

Entry requirements

You will need at least four GCSEs at grade D/3, one must be English or a Level 1 Hairdressing or Beauty Therapy qualification.

Applicants who have not achieved at least a grade C/4 in English and maths will continue to study these subjects alongside their chosen college course.

How will I be assessed?

Online tests in College and carrying out practical assessments on models and clients.

Progression and employment

Successful completion of this course can lead on to the Level 3 Hairdressing programme or an apprenticeship in hairdressing.

How much will the course cost me?

This course is free of charge for 16 – 18 year olds. There may be an additional cost for trips and equipment but this will be disclosed prior to starting your course.

  • You will require a kit and uniform, which can be purchased through the College.
  • Full black shoes must be worn.
  • Hair must be styled.
  • No jewellery except for a flat wedding band and a small pair of stud earrings and a watch.
