This is a one year full-time course and you will be required to attend college for 18 hours a week. College will consist of theory and practical sessions and you will be expected to introduce new clients to the salon and build up a portfolio of assessments. You will also have to complete in-house tests on each unit to support your theory work.

This qualification is good if you feel you need to update your skills and progress within the hairdressing industry.

  • Colour hair
  • Consultation
  • Creative cutting
  • Developing and enhancing your hairdressing skills
  • Hair-up and dressing techniques
  • Health and safety
  • Promoting products and services.

Entry requirements

You should be qualified to Hairdressing Level 2. Good communication skills and a pleasant, outgoing personality are essential.  A professional appearance, dedication and commitment are of extreme importance.

Applicants who have not achieved at least a grade C/4 in English and maths will continue to study these subjects alongside their chosen college course.

How will I be assessed?

Online tests in college and carrying out practical assessments on models and clients.

Progression and employment

You could further your studies onto your teaching qualification, A1 assessors award, beauty therapy studies, own your own business, travelling/cruise liners or managerial positions within the industry.

How much will the course cost me?

This course is free of charge for 16 – 18 year olds. There may be an additional cost for trips and equipment but this will be disclosed prior to starting your course.

  • You will require a kit and uniform, which can be purchased through the College.
  • Full black shoes must be worn.
  • Hair must be styled.
  • No jewellery except for a flat wedding band and a small pair of stud earrings and a watch.
