The purpose of this apprenticeship is to train operational staff in the use of business improvement techniques, to reduce waste and improve efficiency within organisations.

This apprenticeship use employer led, up-to-date, flexible qualifications which meet the changing skills needs of employers. It builds in ofter-skills such as communication, team working, interpersonal skills and the ability to select on personal learning. It also ensures that the qualification is more commercially focused by including many more units that will benefit a variety of business sectors from manufacturing through to offices in improving efficiency.

Entry requirements

  • English grade A*-D/9-4 (or equivalent)
  • Maths grade A*-D/9-4 (or equivalent)
  • College interview

Applicants who do not meet the exact entry requirements may also be considered.

Applicants who have not achieved at least a grade C/4 in English and maths will continue to study these subjects alongside their chosen college course.

Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)

The nine national outcomes for the employee rights and responsibilities (ERR) will be met by an externally and verified qualification.

Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)

This framework includes the mapping of Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS) which have been mapped to the mandatory units of the knowledge and competence qualification. They are:

  • Team workers
  • Self-managers
  • Effective participators

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed through onsite visits and reviews.

Progression and employment

Apprentices can progress onto the Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Improving Operational Performance, other Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeships such as First line Management and the advanced diploma in a range of related sectors or employment in a supervisory capacity.

Possible employment outcomes:

  • Quality control technician
  • Production supervisor
  • Quality assurance technician
  • Team leader.
