Overview

The purpose of this apprenticeship is to meet the current and future needs of employers of all sizes across all sectors. It is intended for aspiring managers and those working in supervisory posts.

The course has been designed to support the development of knowledge and competence in managing individuals and teams. The qualifications will develop key skills, including working with others, managing oneself, and coordinating the work of others.

Management and leadership skills have a major impact on the development, productivity and performance of organisations of all sizes and across all sectors of the economy. Many British leaders and managers are innovative, creative, visionary and inspirational and are heavily relied upon to sustain the UK as one of the world’s leading economies.

In today’s fast-moving competitive environment there is a need to continue to drive up the performance of the best and to address weaknesses in management and leadership that are holding back productivity and performance.

  • Principles of leadership and management
  • Principles of people management
  • Principles of Business

Entry requirements

  • English Grade A*-C/9-4 (or equivalent)
  • Maths Grade A*-C/9-4 (or equivalent)
  • College Interview
  • Currently Employed

Applicants who have not achieved at least a grade C/4 in English and maths will continue to study these subjects alongside their chosen college course.

Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)

The nine national outcomes for the employee rights and responsibilities (ERR) will be met and assessed via a workbook of evidence mapped to the knowledge and competence qualification.

Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)

This framework includes the mapping of Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS) which have been mapped to the mandatory units of the knowledge and competence qualification. They are:

  • Independent enquirers
  • Creative thinkers
  • Reflective learners
  • Team workers
  • Self-managers
  • Effective participators

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed using a range of evidence from work based assignments, professional discussion, one to one assessment, witness testimony, reflective reviews, oral presentations, plus preparing management reports.

Progression and employment

Advanced apprentices could potentially progress onto Level 4 / 5 Management or Business & professional Administration or a range of management, business and other undergraduate programmes

With additional training, advanced apprentices may be able to progress in their careers to roles including middle and senior manager, department manager, head of department, or a wide range of managerial roles within business.
