Overview

Administration professionals are vital for the efficient running of legal businesses and apprentices can work in a wide range of legal areas including: Employment, Family, Commercial, Property and criminal and the apprenticeship can be a stepping stone towards more specialist and senior positions within a firm.

Apprentices wishing to undertake an apprenticeship in Legal Administration must have an interest in working in the legal sector.

Advanced apprentices may work in roles such as Legal Co-Ordinator, Legal Secretary, Executive Assistants , Litigation Assistant, Legal Office Manager.

Tasks undertaken by legal administration apprentices will vary depending on the sector to which they are employed.  Tasks may include, producing business documents, contributing to events, filing and maintaining legal records, answering letters, proof reading, using and maintaining equipment, holding meetings, analysing and presenting business documents, managing projects etc.

Support will be offered to find your apprenticeship.

Entry requirements

  • English grade A*-C/9-4 (or equivalent)
  • Maths grade A*-C/9-4 (or equivalent)
  • College interview

Applicants who do not meet the exact entry requirements may also be considered.

It is likely that advanced apprentices would have some experience in the legal administration sector but is not essential.

Applicants who have not achieved at least a grade C/4 in English and maths will continue to study these subjects alongside their chosen college course.

Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)

The nine national outcomes for the employee rights and responsibilities (ERR) will be met by an externally and verified qualification.

Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)

This framework includes the mapping of Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS) which have been mapped to the mandatory units of the knowledge and competence qualification. They are:

  • Reflective learners
  • Team workers
  • Self-managers
  • Effective participators

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed through onsite visits, reviews and an online portfolio.

Progression and employment

Apprentices studying this apprenticeship could progress, with support, from the workplace, onto the Higher Level 4 Business and Professional Administration Apprenticeship or progress onto a foundation degree in areas such as business, business management, paralegal services, and legal advice.

With additional training, advanced apprentices may be able to progress their careers into roles including legal practice managers, senior legal secretaries, managerial roles within the business.
