Modules and units

This course is for 16-18 year olds and will cover:

  • Advanced health and safety
  • Brakes
  • Light vehicle operating principles of petrol and diesel engines
  • Simple fault diagnosis
  • Steering and suspension
  • Tyres
  • Vehicle electrical and electronic systems.

Entry requirements

Learners who have completed all aspects of the Level 1 study programme or have experience of the motor trade and are passionate about motor vehicles.

Applicants who have not achieved at least a grade C/4 in English and maths will continue to study these subjects alongside their chosen college course.

How will I be assessed?

Learners will be assessed through practical tasks, written assignments and online assessment tests for each unit.

Progression and employment

Successful completion of all aspects of this course can lead to the employment in the light vehicle engineering industry, or ideally into an apprenticeship.

How much will the course cost me?

This course is free of charge for 16 – 18 year olds. There may be an additional cost for trips and equipment but this will be disclosed prior to starting your course.
