Overview

This is an entry level course in basic painting and decorating related subjects. It is open to anyone with a keen interest in improving their practical skills and provides the opportunity to obtain a basic qualification.

It is suitable for people who wish to gain the basic tool skills or for the DIY enthusiasts to improve their skills in order to undertake decorating projects around the home.

The course is taught on an evening, part-time basis, for three and a half hours every week for ten weeks. Please enquire about the availability of this course, if there is a high demand for this course we can change the start dates to suit market demand.

Modules and units

This qualification covers subjects such as:

  • Carrying out simple projects which lead to more complex projects that are within your capabilities
  • Paper hanging
  • Planning
  • Preparing surfaces
  • Setting out
  • Tool identification.

Units within the qualification include:

  • Carrying out operations
  • Contributing to health and safety in the workplace
  • Handling and storing components/materials
  • Personal work skills.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements needed to enrol on this course. However, a reasonable standard of education in English and maths is required.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is by means of practical coursework assessments and job knowledge questions.

Progression and employment

On completion of this course, learners can progress to the Level 1 or Level 2 Diploma depending on ability.
