An employer’s business could include the installation, service, maintenance and repair of a variety of plumbing systems and equipment, including Showers; Baths; Sinks, Drainage Pipes, Plastic and Copper Water Pipes and Guttering, Heating Systems fuelled by Gas; Solar Thermal; Heat Pumps; Oil and Coal.

This apprenticeship framework allows candidates (new entrants or existing staff members) to become competent to industry standards in the Plumbing and Domestic Heating Industry. Upon completion students will have gained the required knowledge and skill to be Registered on the gas safe register under the following competence categories: CCN1, CoNGLP 1PD, CPA1, MET1, CENWAT.

Support will be offered to find your apprenticeship.

Entry requirements

  • English grade A*-C/9-4 (or equivalent)
  • Maths grade A*-C/9-4 (or equivalent)
  • College interview

Applicants who do not meet the exact entry requirements may also be considered.

Applicants who have not achieved at least a grade C/4 in English and maths will continue to study these subjects alongside their chosen college course.

Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)

The nine national outcomes for the employee rights and responsibilities (ERR) is an induction programme combined within the NVQ qualification which is integrated and signposted.

Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)

You will be assessed through onsite visits, reviews and an online portfolio.

  • PLTS

Progression and employment

An advanced apprentice will have the skills, knowledge and qualifications to progress to:

  • HNC in Construction
  • Advanced Higher Level 4/5 Management

Or progress in their career with further training into such job roles as Technician, Designer, Estimator, Project Manager, Site/Workshop Supervisor/ Manager, Chartered Engineer, Sales Engineer or Commercial Manager.

Possible employment outcomes:

  • Advanced Plumber (Gas, Fire, Warm Air)
