Mr Gill has contributed to the development of a regional approach to learning and skills over some fifteen years as an Advisor to the NWDA, Director of the NW Council for Training and Enterprise and more recently as Director of the NW Festival of Skills. He was also Vice-Chairman of Lancashire LSC during its existence and led the development of a skills strategy for Lancashire. He is also Vice-Chairman of Young Enterprise NW. From 2003 - 2006, he chaired the Institution of Engineering and Technology Members' Board Finance Committee. He was appointed a CBE in 1993 following a career in the RAF. His last appointment was Director of Training with overall responsibility for the RAF ground training system and the provision of support for the training fleet of aircraft. He lives in Clitheroe and members of his family have benefitted from attendance at the College.
