Interested in Becoming a College Governor?
YOUR CHANCE TO SHAPE THE FUTURE OF ACCRINGTON AND ROSSENDALE COLLEGE
Accrington and Rossendale College would like to hear from people interested in becoming a College Governor. The College is seeking expressions of interest from people from diverse backgrounds who have experience of decision-making in, for example, business, government or community organisations.
The College is highly successful and was recently acclaimed as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted. It specialises in vocational education and skills development, offering courses from basic level to degree level for students of all ages from 16 to 60+. Working with employers, individuals and community organisations, the College seeks to use vocational education to raise the aspirations and achievements of young people and adults. This benefits businesses and communities and makes an important contribution to the economic re-generation of Pennine Lancashire.
The College has 400 staff, 8,000 full and part-time students and an annual budget of over £15m. The Board of Governors is the equivalent of the Directors of a company and is fully responsible for the College’s assets and for setting its strategies and monitoring its performance.
The College Board includes 13 independent Governors. They are volunteers who put their wealth of skills and experience to good use in guiding the College’s activities and maintaining its viability. Governors are unpaid, but gain considerable satisfaction from knowing that they make a key contribution to the success of the College and its learners.
Governors are expected to attend between eight and ten meetings each year, plus a number of optional events such as student award ceremonies. Training and support is available to Governors and the College reimburses expenses.
