Nick Taylor

Nick Taylor is in his third year at College.  He first arrived in College in 2007 when he took our Choices programme.

This course allows students to sample various occupations before they settle onto a specific vocational course.

Although quiet and isolated when he arrived because of his dyslexic tendencies, he soon blossomed when his tutor, Bev Rowley, introduced him to the use of elearning to assist him with his literacy, numeracy and confidence building.

Bev’s encouragement on this programme allowed him to develop his IT skills to a high level.  He was selected, because of his commitment and enthusiasm, to work with 3 other colleagues to showcase the work he had done using IT because it had helped his learning so much.

At the end of his year on the Choices programme, he chose to study administration.  He moved onto the NVQ Level 1 in Administration programme where his dedication continued.

Although he had left the Choices programme, he id a presentation for JISC which is a national body involved with promoting the us of IT in education.  This was held at Anfield football ground and he had to demonstrate how technology was used in his learning programme to provide inclusion for all students.

He then became a Student Supuser which involved him training other students in their use of IT.  He also submitted 2 pieces of work to BECTA which again demonstrated how he had used technology to improve his learning. As a result of his participation and presentation with the other student super users and colleagues from college, to BECTA judges that the college won a prestigious National award.

He achieved his NVQ Level 1 in Administration with ease and even helped some of his peers on that course, if they were struggling with their IT.

Now he is on the NVQ Level 2 in Administration programme.  This programme requires students to go out on work placement one day a week in order to generate evidence for their NVQ.  Because of his interest in IT and IT resources, Nick secured a place in our Learning Resource Centre.  This placement will allow him to do enhance his administrative skills, but also act as a student trainer if need be when students visit the Centre.
