Course Overview
The Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Apprenticeship is popular with employers in England.
The aim of the apprenticeship framework is to attract new people into the Vehicle Maintenance & Repair from a wide variety of backgrounds to replace those who leave / retire and to up skill the existing workforce in England.
The Vehicle Maintenance & Repair framework is supported by a wide range of employers of all sizes (micro, small/medium and large) across the sector including Jaguar, Toyota, Ford and BMW
The industry relies on a steady flow of new entrants and apprentices to help meet the skills needs of employers and to replace an aging workforce.
Apprentices will spend their time within a Light Vehicle Repair Garage to train and learn the skills needed to become a Service Technician / Vehicle Technician.
Support will be offered to find your apprenticeship.

The nine national outcomes for the employee rights and responsibilities (ERR) is an induction programme and will carry out an externally assessed unit.
This framework includes the mapping of Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS) which have been mapped to the mandatory units of the knowledge and competence qualification. They are:

You will achieve the following qualifications
- Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Diploma Level 2 (Competence)
- Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Diploma Level 2 (Knowledge)
- Maths Functional Skills Level 1
- English Functional Skills Level 1
- ICT Functional Skills Level 1
- ERR
- PLTS
How will the course be assessed?
You will be assessed by direct observation of practical tasks in the workshops at college and in the workplace. There are also assignments and online tests of your knowledge of theory.
Materials and other information
Applicants who do not meet the exact entry requirements may also be considered.
Applicants who have not achieved at least a grade C/4 in English and maths will continue to study these subjects alongside their chosen college course.

Progression and Careers
Apprentices can progress to a range of jobs at Level 2 and 3 such as a Light Vehicle Diagnostic Technician, Service Adviser, Service Receptionist or Maintenance Controller.
OR
They could take up an Advanced Level 3 Apprenticeships.
