This programme will include practical and theory and this will consist of a workshop where demonstration by a tutor then students will practice their skills on blocks. A salon session where students will be required to bring models in to practice their skills and will be assessed once competent. A theory session where an online test will complete each unit.

Students will learn how to analyse the hair and scalp, shampoo and condition the hair according to hair type, cut men’s hair using scissors and clippers and using a range of techniques, cut facial hair and style the hair for today’s current trends.

Entry requirements

You will need at least four GCSEs at grade D/3, one must be English or a Level 1 Hairdressing or Beauty Therapy qualification.

Applicants who have not achieved at least a grade C/4 in English and maths will continue to study these subjects alongside their chosen college course.

How will I be assessed?

On-line tests in college and carrying out practical assessments on models and clients.

Progression and employment

Successful completion of this course can lead on to a Level 3 Barbering or a Level 3 Hairdressing programme.

How much will the course cost me?

This course is free of charge for 16 – 18 year olds. There may be an additional cost for trips and equipment but this will be disclosed prior to starting your course.

This course will cost a maximum of £480 for learners aged 19 years old or above. This fee may be reduced or void depending on the individual’s circumstances.

The cost of the course includes, the college enrolment fee and exam fees.

For health and safety reasons and before you are assessed you must comply with the following:

  • You will require a kit and uniform, which can be purchased through the College.
  • Full black shoes must be worn.
  • Hair must be styled.
  • No jewellery except for a flat wedding band and a small pair of stud earrings and a watch.
