This course covers all the elements of Carpentry & Joinery from preparing surfaces to industry standards to applying water based and solvent based coatings and hanging high quality wallpapers to ceilings and walls.

You will work in a purpose built workshop that is designed to stretch and challenge all learner’s skills and knowledge during training for synoptic end assessments using the very best, up to date resources that the industry has to offer. Theory classes are held in modern classrooms with excellent resources and taught by experienced and knowledgeable staff.

The team have sponsorship from Howdens and Festool ensuring apprentices work with the latest products, materials and power tool technology.

Entry requirements

You will need to have completed any prior learning on a Carpentry & Joinery course or a Level 1 Diploma in Carpentry & Joinery and have GCSEs at grades D/3 or above in English and maths. You will need to attend a college interview and complete an initial assessment.

Applicants who have not achieved at least a grade C/4 in English and maths will continue to study these subjects alongside their chosen college course. (Excluding 19+)

How will I be assessed?

Your diploma will be assessed by practical tests and online multi choice tests.

Progression and employment

Successful completion of the Level 2 Diploma could lead to the Level 3 Diploma in Carpentry & Joinery or ideally into an apprenticeship.

How much will the course cost me?

This course is free of charge for 16 – 18 year olds. There may be an additional cost for trips and equipment but this will be disclosed prior to starting your course.

Much of the theory content and written work of this course will be available on-line through the College’s “itslearning” virtual learning environment. Candidates must be prepared to use IT as part of their learning.
