Course Overview

The course follows the new specification GCSE English Language, which grades students from 9-1 instead of from A*-G.

You will have the opportunity to talk and listen in a variety of contexts read a wide variety of literature non-fiction and media texts. In compiling a coursework folder and preparing for the examination students will develop their basic English skills necessary to achieve a grade 4 or above.

We expect students to attend regularly and to hand in work on schedule. This is essential for success on the course.

How will the course be assessed?

Assessment of your progress is throughout the programme.  However, your overall results is based on externally set exams that is usually held during the day in June.  The date of this may vary.

You will also improve the wider skills vital for success in further study or employment including self-confidence speaking in front of others reading effectively and organising structuring your writing for a range of purposes.

Progression

You will gain a qualification essential for progress to many Level 3 courses including A-levels and Level 3 BTEC Diplomas. GCSE English at ‘C/4’ or above is also required for entry into teacher and nursing training and is demanded by many employers.
