Candidates will not require any prior knowledge of the trade to undertake this qualification. This is an entry level course in Basic Carpentry and Joinery. It is open to anyone with a keen interest in improving their practical skills and provides the opportunity to obtain a basic qualification. It is suitable for people who wish to gain the basic tool skills or for DIY enthusiasts to improve their skills in order to undertake projects around the home.

There is the provision to complete a home project of your choice depending on skill level and resources available. The course is taught on an evening, part-time basis, for three and a half hours every week for nine weeks.

Please note that demand for the course is extremely high and places are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis; there are two intakes (one in September, one in February). Enrolment can be done at any time prior to the commencement of the course.

The team have sponsorship from Howdens and Festool ensuring apprentices work with the latest products, materials and power tool technology.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements needed to enrol on this course, however, a reasonable standard of education in English and maths is required.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed through question and answer sessions, practical tasks and observation.

Progression and employment

It provides an excellent preparation and training for working in the construction industry with its emphasis on the development of skills. Successful completion of this course also allows progression to a range of construction programmes.

How much will the course cost me?

This course will cost a maximum of £140.00 for learners aged 19 years old or above. This fee may be reduced or void depending on the individual’s circumstances.

The cost of the course includes, the college enrolment fee and exam fees.

There may be an additional cost for trips and equipment but this will be disclosed prior to starting your course.
