Overview

This is a one year full-time course which involves three days of study a week. This will give you the opportunity to improve confidence, take part in lots of practical activities, days out and give you taste of lots of different pathways available to study within the College on completion of the course.

English and maths: Alongside this programme you will complete functional skills English and maths. These lessons will give you the key skills to progress effectively in everyday life and employment.

Work related learning: The work related learning programme focuses on the high expectations of employers, encouraging and supporting learners to develop the skills required to progress into other vocational areas and employment. This includes subject areas such as equality and diversity, healthy living, money management and enterprise activities.

Tutorial: Tutorial is a workshop designed to develop your employability skills and produce a portfolio of evidence including a CV, personal statement, and general evidence of good practice within your academic studies.

Entry requirements

The Level 1 Certificate Hair and Beauty programme is aimed at students aged 16 – 19 years who are possibly achieving at Entry Level 3 and are currently interested in a career in the hair and beauty industry.

Applicants who have not achieved at least a grade C/4 in English and maths will continue to study these subjects alongside their chosen college course.

How will I be assessed?

The vocational qualification will be assessed throughout the year through written, practical and oral assignments. English and maths are assessed through a final exam.

Progression and employment

Successful completion of this Level 1 Certificate in Hair and Beauty qualification can lead to a place on a whole range of the Colleges Level 1 or Level 2 programmes.

How much will the course cost me?

This course is free of charge for 16 – 18 year olds. There may be an additional cost for trips and equipment but this will be disclosed prior to starting your course.

  • You will require a kit and uniform, which can be purchased through the College.
  • Full black shoes must be worn.
  • Hair must be styled.
  • No jewellery except for a flat wedding band and a small pair of stud earrings and a watch.
