The modules are taught by specialised staff and will involve lectures, practical, presentations and research. As a public service student, you are expected to be active, enthusiastic, disciplined, motivated and have a genuine interest in a career in the public services.

This qualification will provide you an opportunity to focus on the development of personal skills,

and wider skills such as discipline and teamwork in a public service context. We have tailored this course to suit the demands of our students and is designed to inspire and motivate you towards your next step.

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs at Grades 3 or above including English and maths or Level 1 in Sport or Public Service. You will also be required to participate in a College interview and show a keen interest and commitment to having a successful career in the public services.

Applicants who have not achieved at least a grade C/4 in English and maths will continue to study these subjects alongside their chosen college course.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed by a variety of methods throughout your programme. Assessment is via coursework, practical assessments, case studies and presentations.

Progression and employment

Progression onto the Level 3 Public services course or employment in one of HM Armed Forces, The Police, Fire and Rescue Service, HM Prison Service, Border Force or other public service employment.

How much will the course cost me?

This course is free of charge for 16 – 18 year olds. There may be an additional cost for trips and equipment but this will be disclosed prior to starting your course.

Additional and key information

There will be the opportunity to take part in Duke of Edinburgh Scheme and a National Citizen Service qualification.

You will also have the opportunity to visit the Imperial War Museum and Crown Court, take part in an Army residential, Fire and Rescue Service, canoeing, climbing, caving, hill and mountain walking.
