The modules are taught by specialised staff and will involve lectures, practical, presentations and research. You’ll attend residential work-experience with the British Army and have numerous opportunities during the year to learn first-hand from serving regular and reserve Armed Forces personnel. In addition to developing those all-important personal qualities, you will train and help to prepare you to pass the selection process for the service and job of your choice; leading to a career in the Armed Forces for those who want it.

Entry requirements

Two GCSEs at grades 3 or above including English and maths. You will also be required to participate in a college interview and show a keen interest and commitment to having a successful career in the public services.

Applicants who have not achieved at least a grade C/4 in English and maths will continue to study these subjects alongside their chosen college course.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed by a variety of methods throughout your programme. Assessment is via coursework, practical assessments, case studies and presentations.

Progression and employment

This Level 1 course will help you to progress on to a Level 2 Public Services course or you could go straight into employment in one of HM Armed Forces, The Police, Fire and Rescue Service, HM Prison Service, Border Force or other public service employment.

How much will the course cost me?

This course is free of charge for 16 – 18 year olds. There may be an additional cost for trips and equipment but this will be disclosed prior to starting your course.

Additional and key information

There will be the opportunity to take part in Duke of Edinburgh Scheme and a National Citizen Service qualification.

You will also have the opportunity to visit the Imperial War Museum and Crown Court, take part in an Army residential, Fire and Rescue Service, canoeing, climbing, caving, hill and mountain walking.
