As an applicant of Accrington and Rossendale College, you will now be getting ready for your enrolment with us. The safety of our students and staff remains our number one priority during this unprecedented time, and for that reason this year enrolment is online. Your Online Enrolment – the first steps

You will have received a username and password link for our online enrolment portal via email and text (this will be to the email and mobile number that you gave on your application form). If you haven’t already received this, or are struggling to access it, please contact us. 

In order to access your account for the first time, you will need to set a password. Please select the option of “Forgot your password?”, do not click ‘create an account’ as we’ve already created an account for you. When prompted, please enter the username you’ve been sent, and you will be sent a link to set your password. Please check that the email hasn’t gone into a ‘junk’ folder.

When will I be able to enrol at the College?

We are really pleased to be able to confirm that this year enrolment is taking place online. All applicants are being sent a guide with more information, which includes how you can register and access your online enrolment portal. There are some sections that you can complete now and some that you will be able to complete on your Enrolment Day – Thursday 20 August, once you get your GCSE results. Details of these are being sent in the post and via email. The more you do now, the less you will have to on results day.  If you’re struggling to complete your enrolment online then please contact us on 01282 440272.

I haven’t completed my application form to study at Accrington and Rossendale College yet. Is it too late to apply?

You’re not too late! You can still apply to College in the usual ways – we advise that you complete your application online via our website at www.accross.ac.uk/apply-now. Our Admissions Team are still working remotely and ensuring all applications are processed. We will notify you once your application has been received and give you all the information you need to start your enrolment process. I really want to come to college to speak to somebody, can I do this?

Yes, we do have a small team of staff in college who can support you. They are able to call you or we can arrange for an appointment to be made for you to come to college. If this is what you would prefer, please contact the Admissions Team on 01282 440272.

I haven’t got the grades I was hoping for – what do I do?

If you have not achieved the results you need for your chosen course, don’t worry. We will provide you with advice and guidance on Enrolment Day (Thursday 20 August). Once you’ve uploaded your results you will be contacted by a tutor to discuss your options. Alternatively you can contact our Admissions team to book an appointment on 01282 440272.

If I have got the grades I require for my chosen course, what happens next?

If you have the results required for the course you have applied for and have already had a College interview, then your enrolment will be approved online and we won’t need to contact you. You will receive an email about your next steps to starting College in September.

 I haven’t yet had my College interview, what happens now? 

If you’ve applied to the College and haven’t yet had an interview then don’t worry. You will be contacted by a member of staff as part of your enrolment process. Once you’ve uploaded your GCSE results to the portal, a member of our team will contact you.

I want to change my choice of course. How do I do this?

That’s fine. If you have applied, but changed your mind about the course you want to study from September, you simply need to inform our Admissions Team by phoning 01282 440272 or emailing admissions@nelson.ac.uk

I’ve applied for an Apprenticeship, but haven’t secured employment. What happens now? 

We understand that, due to the impact of the current pandemic on businesses, there aren’t as many Apprenticeship vacancies on offer as there usually would be at this time. Rest-assured that our team will do everything they can to help you secure employment during this time, but if this can’t happen before September, we are pleased to be able to offer you a place on a suitable college programme aligned to your career aims.

Is the college opening in September or will it remain online? 

When you start College in September you can expect a mixture of online and on-site classes, as well as independent study. Further information will be provided during your enrolment process/after enrolment. The College campus will look a little different as we have put measures in place to ensure your safety on site – rest assured, this remains our absolute priority.  

Do I have to purchase any clothing or equipment for my course before starting in September? 

Some of our courses require specialist equipment which should be ordered during or after enrolment. Please do not purchase any items before you enrol. More information can be found in your enrolment guide, which is being sent to all our applicants.  

What IT equipment will I need access to for any online learning? 

In order to ensure that you are able to participate in online lessons, you will be required to have access to some IT equipment. If you do not have access to a suitable device or the internet and/or are struggling with costs towards this, then you may be eligible for support. More information can be found in your enrolment guide, which is being sent to all our applicants. 

How do I apply for financial support?

We have an extensive financial support package for our full-time 16-18 year old students. Support packages are tailored to meet individual needs, to help you throughout your time at College. More information can be found in your enrolment guide, which is being sent to all our applicants. 

If I don’t plan on driving or walking to College, what other travel options are available to me? 

We offer a wide range of direct bus services to ensure you can get to College easily and flexibly. Subsidised bus travel is available for all our 16-18 year old students and our Transdev bus passes include unlimited weekend and evening travel. Students are also encouraged to cycle to College where possible. More information can be found in your enrolment guide, which is being sent to all our applicants. 

 I will require Additional Learning Support when I start College. Do I need to let anybody know in advance? 

If you have a learning difficulty or disability and need some extra support with your studies or access arrangements, you may be eligible for Additional Learning Support. If you havent already notified the College, or included details on your application form, please contact the Learning Support Team by emailing l.support@accross.ac.uk

I am anxious about starting College in September. Is there anybody I can speak to? 

We understand that right now is a really surreal time for all our applicants and students, and we are here to help and support every step of the way. If you have any concerns about starting College at this time you can contact our Health and Wellbeing Team by emailing health@nelson.ac.uk 

I have a query about my application, who can I contact?

When will I get my timetable?

You will be given your timetable as part of your College induction. Details will be sent to you in the post following your enrolment.

When will I get my ID Badge?

You will be given your ID badge as part of your College induction. Details will be sent to you in the post following your enrolment.

Are there bus routes to the College?

The college works with Transdev, Lancashire Bus and Pilkington Bus to provide you with as many routes as possible into the College – all of which are heavily subsidised. For more information, you can visit our website at www.accross.ac.uk. Information on bus pass prices and how to apply for financial support can be found here also.

When will I get my bus pass?

All bus passes will be online this year. Once you have either been approved for a free bus pass, or when you have paid for this, you will be sent a link to the Transdev app. If you don’t have a phone, don’t worry, there is an alternative available to you.

How much is a bus pass?

There are three types of passes available – these range from £40-£95. You but you may be entitled to this for free if you have a household income under £31,000. For more details please visit the College website or you can apply at https://nelson.paymentstudent.com

Am I eligible for financial support?

You may be eligible for financial support if your household income is less than £31,000 per year.  College can support with purchasing kit, uniform and clothing and devices, but please don’t buy anything yet, as we are unable to reimburse you.   

To apply for the College Bursary you will need to complete an application by visiting https://nelson.paymentstudent.com.

Is there parking at the College?

Yes, there is limited car parking on site for students. You will need to apply for a parking permit via Student Services. More information on how do this will be available during your College induction.

Am I eligible for free breakfast?

All students arriving before 9am each day can enjoy a FREE healthy breakfast in our Refectory. Free fruit is available to all students while in College.

I was on free meals at school – Will I be entitled to this at College?

Funding is available to support students aged between 16-18 at the start of their course to access a free meal for each day they attend their study programme (up to £3 a day), where this is appropriate. For further information, please visit our website or contact Student Services.

Will I need to wear a face covering?

If you need to come into the College you will be required to wear a face covering at all times.

Is the College cashless?

The College uses a cashless “smart card” system, which enables you to make purchases in the College catering outlets and Learning Resource Centre without the need to carry cash. Further details of this can be found on the College website.

I’m on holiday and haven’t got my GCSE results from school yet?

Don’t worry, you will be able to enrol on you return. Please contact the Admissions Team on 01282 440272 or you can use the live chat feature on the website.
