Accrington and Rossendale College is preparing to welcome in prospective students and their families to its first Year 11 Open Event of the academic year.

The College’s doors will open up to visitors on Wednesday 16 October between 5.30pm and 7.30pm when there will be the chance to come and discover what life is like at one of the top 10 colleges in the country for Level 3 learner achievement and Apprenticeship achievement, and a College which is being significantly improved with £4million of investment.

Those attending can find out more about the broad range high quality vocational and occupational courses offered at Accrington and Rossendale College that can lead into rewarding and successful careers, as well as valuable Apprenticeships in many industry sectors, and brand new T Level qualifications in Digital and Childcare to be delivered from September 2020.

Principal Amanda Melton said: “Choosing the right College can be quite a daunting prospect. By choosing Accrington and Rossendale College, however, you are selecting an extraordinary place to study and one which is benefiting from a multi-million pound investment into the site, which will transform it into a learning environment suitable for the modern world of Further Education.

“This investment is seeing new innovative student spaces including a fully-modernised Learning Resource Centre, new dedicated study zones, a purpose-built Learner Services and Careers Zone, new commercial salons, and outdoor landscaping. The newly-developed College site will ensure students have access to the best facilities in surroundings fit for developing talented young people for years to come.

Visitors will also have the chance to enjoy a tour of the campus, talk to expert tutors and members of the Careers Team, and take part in a range of exciting ‘have a go’ activities. There will also be the opportunity to discover Accrington and Rossendale College’s outstanding extracurricular programme, and find out more about financial assistance and the extensive support services available.

Molly Simmonds, 18, who is studying Level 3 Health and Social Work Professions at Accrington and Rossendale College, said: “I really like the idea of working with elderly people as I think it is a very rewarding career.

“Accrington and Rossendale College has been great as the course content has been ideal, and I’ve had excellent careers advice. I’ve also had two work placements – one in a care home and one in and elderly ward at hospital – and these have really helped shaped my career goal. My next step is to progress to the University of York to study Social Work.”

Jake McNair, 21, progressed on to a HNC in Carpentry and Joinery at Accrington and Rossendale College after completing his Level 3 qualification alongside his work for H&S Joinery in Blackburn. Jake said: “My courses at College have developed my joinery skills, and personally it has made me a more mature and responsible person. I want to keep developing my skills and my plan is to study for my HNC and then my HND.

“My ultimate ambition is to become a quantity surveyor and I’ve found learning something I’m passionate about and interested in at Accrington and Rossendale College very enjoyable.”
