A pair of talented students have won a design competition to create Nelson and Colne College Group’s Christmas cards for 2020.

The entries created by James Carter, 17, and Lois Page, 16, will be shared by College staff to contacts during the festive season.

James, an Art and Design student, demonstrated his talent through the drawing of a popular Christmas scene – a robin on a holly bush.

Lois, meanwhile, is a Sport student who enjoys drawing and painting in her spare time. She painted a snowman scene on a pebble – one of several pebbles she has created as part of a project within the Sport department at College, to be distributed in seasonal packs to Age UK.

James said: “It feels fantastic to have been named as a winner of the competition as I have never won anything for my art before. I love wildlife and I combined that with my mum’s liking of robins to create something traditional – it was just a bit of fun.”

Lois said: “I really enjoy getting creative in my spare time – I find it is a great way to relax. The pebble is one of five designs I have done and I’m happy it was chosen as a winner. The Age UK project is lovely to be part of, especially at this time of year, and I hope the pebbles manage to raise a smile.”

Both winners were awarded a £50 Amazon voucher.
