Course Overview

This course is an introduction to our language classes and it offers a flavour of the language, lifestyle and food of Germany at Christmas. Students will hear the language and be able to say a few words and phrases linked to Christmas and the New Year. You will also have the opportunity to learn a little about the way the Germans celebrate their festive season and traditional foods.

How will I Learn?

Your course will be delivered by a subject specialist in a live online classroom using Zoom or Teams.

You will need to be able to access the internet on a device with speakers or earphones.

Some of the course content will also be accessed via our online learning site ‘Moodle’.

Once you have enrolled onto the course you will be sent further information from your course tutor on how to get started.

Your tutor will be on hand throughout the course to offer you support, feedback and guidance.

No prior skills or experience is required

The course is 2.5 hours per week/session and is delivered over 1 weeks/sessions.

What will I learn?

At the end of the course, learners will be able to:

Learners will have gain some knowledge of German Christmas traditions and the time before Christmas

Learners will have heard famous Christmas songs and their historic significance

Learners will have seen typical Christmas scenes via pictures and video

Learners will be shown a typical Christmas recipe and drink and how to make it themselves

How will the course be assessed?

Learners attend via the online platform Zoom on a set day and time. The sessions will be delivered live and learners will be supported to work through the course content. Depending on the class, learners will be given access to an online Learning Environment so activities can be completed during, between or after sessions to record progress, achievement and allow further study and research.

Materials and other information

So the course can start on time, it’s important to be ready to join your online course 5 minutes prior to the official start time. If you attend a face-to-face session, please allow 5-10 further minutes to complete any necessary documents.

Progression and Careers

The teacher will use a range of activities to review learner’s knowledge throughout the course and identify any gaps and additional information required

Learners will receive feedback in order to further develop their knowledge

Learners will assess their knowledge at the start of the course and again at the end against the learning outcomes. This allows you to identify how much you have learnt and where you might need to do further study or research.

Learners will also be supported to set an individual target(s) for the course based on personal goals and aspirations.
