Course Overview
Whether you want a website for personal or business use, this course will guide you through the steps to create a site that you can be proud of, using a vast amount of FREE resources using world renowned website building platform, Wordpress. Over 60% of website worldwide use Wordpress’ content management system which gives you an idea as to how important it is to be familiar with this platform. You will explore the best 'domain hosts', different website templates and types of websites and start to learn skills to make your web pages stand out from the rest!
How long is the course?
The course is designed to last 3 weeks.
What will I learn?
At the end of the course you will be able to:
1. Identify 2 or more reasons for creating a website.
2. Research how and where to get your website on the internet, describing what domain hosting
means.
3. Create a domain hosting account that will host your site.
4. Install Wordpress on your hosting account
5. Download FTP software Filezilla
6. Analyse and install appropriate plug ins.
7. Choose an appropriate template
8. Create Pages and customize your template.
9. Edit page headers and tags in images for SEO
How will the course be assessed?
There will be virtual and live working environment, discussion, individual work, video-based tutorials and feedback.
On three allocated days at a set time you will be invited to join a Teams/Zoom session with the teacher for online delivery and distribution of learner content.
Your teacher will set tasks for you to complete, which will be through our Virtual Learning Environment - Moodle. Here there will be resources and activities that you will use on your course and be able to access at home and after the course finishes.
The course is largely independent study so will require you to make time to work through it.
Materials and other information
What equipment will I need?
There are no further costs involved on this course. However you may want to purchase a web address and/or hosting package to create your own website. For the purposes of the course a FREE web address and hosting package will be created and further information for their long term use will be explained. Computer/laptop for website element (tablet/iPad/mobile phone for online meeting only will suffice), internet connection and Email account.

Progression and Careers
Throughout the course you will be given feedback online through Moodle and via telephone. As this course is solely online you will need to spend dedicated time, for you to progress through the course and achieve completion. You will have an individual learning plan where you will, with your teacher, set individual targets you wish to complete. Throughout the course you will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your teacher via various communication methods.
