This course you will allow you to unleash your creative side and develop your writing in an original style. We will to discover the principles of writing fiction. You will learn how to develop your characters more deeply, how to establish a sense of place and time in your writing, use dialogues more effectively and experiment with writing styles. We will develop narrative techniques and investigate the narrative voice. Learners will be encouraged to develop their own narrative voice and style and also to work on a creative writing project throughout the course. Learners will also engage in sharing ideas and giving and receiving feedback on their work.
How long is the course?
The course is 2.5 hours per session and is delivered for 10 weeks
What will I learn?
At the end of the course, learners will be able to:
Identify the key elements of fiction writing.
Identify the steps to plotting a piece of fiction.
Understand the idea of characterisation.
Complete a piece of fiction writing.
Identify good dialogue practices.
Share your creative ideas with others.
How will the course be assessed?
Learners attend via the online platform Microsoft Teams on a set day and time. The sessions will be delivered live and learners will be supported to work through the course content. In addition to this, learners will be given access to Moodle (VLE – Virtual Learning Environment) so activities can be completed during and between sessions to record progress and achievement. Also, learners will be able to access Padlet in order to share resources and work with the group. Information about using Padlet will be given at the beginning of the course.
During each session, learners will be engaging in short writing activities designed to practise and develop techniques.
These activities will be shared in the group where learners can receive verbal feedback from both the tutor and other learners.
Learners will also be offered the chance to submit pieces of work for more structured feedback
Materials and other information
If any equipment is required for this course your tutor will let you know in plenty of time before the course starts.
So the course can start on time, it’s important to be ready to join your online course 15 minutes prior to the official start time.

Progression and Careers
The teacher will use a range of activities to review learner’s knowledge throughout the course and identify any gaps and additional information required
Learners will receive feedback in order to further develop their knowledge
Learners will assess their knowledge at the start of the course and again at the end against the learning outcomes. This allows you to identify how much you have learnt and where you might need to do further study or research.
Learners will also be supported to set an individual target(s) for the course based on personal goals and aspirations.
