Course Overview

Digital skills are essential for life and this course will help you to learn the skills you need to be able to enjoy the benefits of getting online and using digital devices. Whatever your needs or interests such as booking a GP appointment, ordering shopping online, video calling family, supporting your child’s home learning or searching for a new job this course will give you the tools you need to use online and digital services safely.


Initial assessment - You will complete an initial assessment to find out what you already know and what is the right level for you. Your teacher will then support you to set your individual learning targets so that you can reach your learning goals.

What will I learn?

Your teacher will then support you to set your individual learning targets so that you can reach your learning goals. You will be given a Topic and Assessment plan which will outline your course content and any key assessment dates. Some examples of topics are listed below: • There are 5 skill areas within Essential Digital Skills
• Using devices and handling information – you will learn how to manage
and store information, identify and solve simple technical issues.
• Creating and Editing – starting with documents and moving on to other
types of digital media such as images, audio files and videos.
• Communicating – how to send emails and make video calls.
• Transacting – completing online forms and buying an item or service
online.
• Being safe and responsible online – keeping yourself safe and knowing
how to behave responsibly when online

How will the course be assessed?

Regular assessments (as outlined in your topic and assessment plan) and feedback from self-reflection, your peers or tutor marked work, will allow you to monitor your progress and set your own targets to help with your achievement. Reviews of your progress will be carried out every half term in order to track development. This is used within your individual learning portfolio.
There are lots of available resources for you at college to help with your learning, such as the colleges VLE; Moodle.

Materials and other information

You will receive an EDSQ qualification with Gateway at either Entry Level 3 or Level 1. This exams will take place at your learning centre when you are ready.
Regardless of whether you do an exam or not, you will be set challenging targets and will be fully supported in achieving them.

Progression and Careers

Reviews of your progress will be carried out every half term in order to track development. This is used within your individual learning portfolio.
