Course Overview

This Level 3 course is carried out online, over 15 weeks.

During the 15 weeks, you will undertake both theory lessons and practicals, online. There are 2 practical track days and a Drug, Alcohol and Medical Screening that you will need to attend. These are noted on your timetable.

You will be provided with Approved Personal Protective Equipment and become competent in Safety Awareness and Manual Handling. All these, will be under the watchful eye of our friendly, approachable, Qualified Trainer/Assessor – Stephen White.

Providing you complete the NVQ, sponsorship with an employer and Drug, Alcohol and Medical screening successfully, you will then continue your journey and undertake the Employer-led Safety critical courses (Personal Track Safety / Track Induction Course) PTS/TIC to enable you to work on Network Rail Infrastructure.

• EAL Level 3 Diploma in Engineering Technology
• Full set of Network Rail Approved PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
• Network Rail Approved Medical – Mandatory that this is attended and passed or won’t progress on the course – Necessary for PTS
• Network Rail Approved Drugs & Alcohol Screening – Mandatory that this is attended and passed or won’t progress on the course – Necessary for PTS
• Sponsorship paperwork including ID and right-to-work documentation – Necessary for PTS.
• E-Learning – Sent from your sponsor – Mandatory that this is completed and passed by the deadline of your PTS training
• Small Plant Training.
• Basic Hand Tools Training.
• First Aid and Manual Handling.

How will the course be assessed?

This Level 3 course is carried out online, over 15 weeks.
The PTS that follows is 8:30-17:00 for 2 weeks.

Learners must be able to commit to full attendance of all parts of the programme.

You will spend most of your time in online classes, with your tutor. He will prepare you with knowledge, experience and skills to complete typewritten assignments on the chosen subjects. Your tutor will provide feedback about the work produced for your assignments.

You will spend 2 days at a track location for practical learning and skills assessments. These will take place at either Accrington College Campus or Preston Ribble Steam Railway.
