Our Pre-Advanced courses offer an exciting, vocational based programme to help you to explore different subject interests and develop the personal skills and experiences you need to progress.

With Maths and English at its core, these courses are available from Entry Level to Level 2, in a range of vocational subjects. Our courses are designed to offer you tailored support and skills development to help you progress on to further studies or to get ready for an Apprenticeship.

Ambitions

All Level 2 courses are part of the Ambitions Programme. This exciting programme is linked to your chosen College course and will help you to explore your career options and develop the personal skills and experiences you need to achieve your ambitions.

Pre-Advanced Programmes (Entry Level – Level 1)

All Level 1 courses are part of the Pre-Advanced programmes. At this level, you will develop basic skills and knowledge of your chosen vocational subject, alongside English and Maths, and also develop your personal skills to help you take those first steps towards your chosen career.

Choices (For students with learning difficulties or support needs)

The Choices programmes meet the needs of students by offering an individually tailored programme, within a structured curriculum. The programme uses appropriate teaching strategies, age appropriate activities, language, materials and learning aids to enhance and develop the cognitive learning of the student.

Choices Programme – Entry 2

This is a course aimed at learners aged between 16 to 25 years old. The Entry 2 Choices programme is a one-year full time course offered at Entry Level 2, allowing learners to gain a qualification within the National Qualifications Framework. This course aids progression onto Entry 3 Choices or Entry 3 Vocational pathways.

The programme aims to provide curriculum development in the areas of life skills, personal, social, academic and work related learning.

Choices Programme – Entry 3

Open Awards Entry Level Certificate for Further Skills and Employment.

This qualification embraces the development of personal, social, health, moral and citizenship skills and skills which prepare the student for working life.

In addition, the qualification provides an opportunity for the student to develop skills, allowing them to become more autonomous and personally effective in managing and dealing with the demands of daily life.

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

The main purpose of this course is to provide students with the opportunity to cover all four skills in English:

  • Speaking
  • Listening
  • Reading
  • Writing

The course will allow you to progress onto your chosen courses within College. Learning is through classroom based activities, enterprise projects and access to all vocational areas within College. Students who progress onto Entry Level 3 ESOL will be able to choose either a vocational or an academic route depending on their career choices. No prior qualifications are required. The level of study will be decided by initial assessment. For your chosen vocational option, you will also study a range of topics which may include:

  • ICT skills
  • Communication and working with others
  • Vocational tasters
  • Skills

Preparation for Supported Internship (Entry Level 3)

This course has been designed as a practical based employability course where learning is primarily based through a variety of work placements with local businesses and organisations with minimal time spent in the classroom.

  • Individual Work Placements
  • Employability Skills
  • Extracurricular Activities
  • Tutorial programme

Throughout this course you will develop your skills and understanding of the world of work. You will study 3 small units at Entry Level 3 with the majority of learning completed outside of the classroom.

  • Business Enterprise
  • Personal Action Planning
  • Health and Safety at Work
  • Horticulture
  • Maintenance work
  • Volunteering
  • Retail and customer service

Supported Internship

This course involves learners spending the majority of their study time working with an employer and a short amount of time in college. Whilst working with an employer, learners will have a ‘Job Coach’ who will support them in their work placement. This support will be reduced over time as learner’s progress through the course.

Supported Internships are personalised to each individual learner and each learner may study additional qualifications such as:

  • Food Safety
  • Safeguarding
  • Customer Service
  • CSCS
  • First Aid
  • Health and Safety

Also included in the course are:

  • Maths

  • Tutorial
  • Extracurricular Activities

Throughout this course you will develop your skills and understanding of the world of work. As you will work at a specific workplace, then you will develop skills for that area of work.

Supported Internships can be completed in a wide range of different workplaces such as; cafes, garages, shops, schools, colleges, nurseries, garden center’s etc.

Introduction to College (Entry Level 2)

This course offers more support to learners and has been designed as a practical based employability and life skills course where learning is primarily based through a variety of work placements with local businesses and organisations with minimal time spent in the classroom.
