Course Overview

The Access to Higher Education Diploma is a QAA accredited course that provides students with an essential qualification, subject knowledge, and skills to progress to studies at university level.

This programme prepares 19+ students who are returning to education, or those who left school with fewer qualifications, to be able to progress on to Higher Education. The programme provides a good foundation in the knowledge and skills required for studying at university level.

What will I learn?

Social Science
You will study Sociology, Psychology, Counselling and Mental Health.

In addition to your chosen pathway, you will also study Academic Writing Skills, Academic Research Skills and Preparing to Progress within the course.

How much will the course cost me?

At enrolment, you will become liable to pay tuition fees and it is your obligation to arrange to pay these fees by applying for the Advanced Learner Loan (ALL) via Student Finance England. You cannot apply for the loan until you have enrolled on the course.

Student Finance England will ‘write off’ any outstanding Advanced Learner Loan balances you owe for an Access to HE course once you complete a higher education course. This means you do not have to repay it. The higher education course must be eligible for student finance.

Students aged 19-23 without a Level 3 qualification will qualify for Government funding to pay for the tuition fees.

Note: support with application for ALL is available

Progression

Successful completion of the programme will provide you with the opportunity to progress onto studying a wide range of subjects at university level. These may include:

Social Science
Health and Applied Social Studies, Working with Children and Families, Mental Health Work, Criminology and Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology, History, Social Work, Policing, Teaching and other Education Studies.
