Course Overview

This is a one-year full-time course which involves three days of study a week. The course is designed to support learner’s development in the use of the English Language whilst studying a vocational subject. This course will provide subject specialists in ESOL to enable learners to improve their knowledge of reading, writing, and speaking in English to improve their opportunities of progression to higher levels of study and employment. The completion of this course will provide opportunity to progress on to higher levels of study and develop vocationally specific knowledge.

Work related learning: During work related learning sessions there is a focus on developing industry relevant skills and knowledge. The sessions are designed to promote and develop the skills needed for the world of work. There are opportunities to engage in the wider curriculum and undertake a variety of projects that will enable students to create a port-folio of evidence to support their academic studies.

The course also involves tutorial sessions and maths and English. Tutorial is a workshop designed to develop your employability skills and produce a portfolio of evidence including a CV, personal statement, and general evidence of good practice within your academic studies

The course gives you the opportunity to:

  • Achieve a nationally recognised entry level qualification
  • Develop core skills including maths and English
  • Develop interests in different areas which may enable progression to a vocational qualification
  • Engage in learning which is relevant to you and will provide opportunities to develop a range of life skills and techniques, personal skills and attributes
  • Progress to related general and/or vocational qualifications
  • Progress to supported employment in a particular vocational sector.
How will the course be assessed?

The vocational qualification will be assessed throughout the year through observation, written, practical and oral assignments. English and maths are assessed through a final exam.

How much will the course cost me?

This course is free of charge for 16 – 18 year olds. There may be an additional cost for trips and equipment but this will be disclosed prior to starting your course.

This course will cost a maximum of £00.00 for learners aged 19 years old or above. This fee may be reduced or void depending on the individual’s circumstances.

The cost of the course includes, the college enrolment fee and exam fees.
